Adding the District of Columbia to Compact Filings
Now that the District of Columbia is effective for Compact filing use, filers should be aware of a couple points that may affect the Compact?s standard same-day service to acknowledge a newly added jurisdiction. If you experience a delay in the acknowledgment of the District of Columbia in your filing, please verify that these points have been thoughtfully addressed.
- A Supporting Documentation Update (SDU) filing submission must include the same jurisdictions included in the original, approved filing that the SDU submission revises. The District of Columbia must be added to the approved form filing(s) and the SDU filing submissions before being acknowledged.
- If you are adding the District of Columbia to an application, endorsement or rider filing, please make sure the associated filings also include the District of Columbia. If a product component filed directly with the District of Columbia will be used instead of a Compact-approved component, the District of Columbia component must be listed on the Statement of Intent before the District of Columbia is acknowledged.
The acknowledgement process is delayed when the Insurance Compact Office must navigate a web of filing submissions to ensure that these requirements are satisfied. When the filer has made connections between approved and pending filings complete, add-a-state requests are typically addressed on the same business day the request is made.
If you have any questions about adding a state to your Compact filing, or about the Insurance Compact in general, please contact the Insurance Compact Office.
